a pretty awful 33rd birthday... | type 1 diabetes day in the life
Hi everyone!! I'm finally posting my birthday vlog from the end of February! Yikes! Oh my goodness, I know this is so delayed, but as you can tell from the thumbnail... we've been so sick since my daughter Eden started school in September. Even since filming this vlog, we have been hit with virus after virus and I haven't had a chance to edit. With warm weather on the way, we are starting to do a lot better. It has been a rough school year for families with young children. If you have also been constantly sick, you aren't alone!!

    My last emergency Glucagon kit expired in December of 2020. I have since had it refilled and keep it in my refrigerator for safety reasons. I have had some pretty severe lows in my 13 years of being a diabetic but I've never actually passed out from a low. That being said, people should ALWAYS keep Glucagon in their homes (anyone with diabetes who takes insulin, tbh). You never know when you'll need it. And if you do have Glucagon, be sure to check the expiration date on occasion because they have an average shelf life of about one year.

    I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 29 and I got pregnant shortly after finding out but now that my periods have returned I’ve experienced this for the past 3-4 cycles. I honestly thought I was going crazy until I found this video. My sugars run around 200-350 for the 3-5 day prior to my period starting and then the minute my period starts my sugars tank. I started today and my fasting sugar was 220 and I’m now battling a sugar of 67 at 9pm. I also have PCOS which I thought was to blame because it causes insulin resistance so my cycles are all over the place ranging from 47-55 day cycles.

    I have been type 1 for 35 years and have no complications. I don't eat anything you do. My best control and feeling of being well did not come until switching first to Keto, and then Carnivore. My last ALC was under 6. I do not understand why people insist on eating vegetables (they make me feel like crap). Sure, veggies have nutrients, but they also have anti-nutrients, which is a plant's chemical warfare. Every creature on this planet has a mechanism to defend itself, including plants. Do yourself a favor and eat the way you were intended to eat, animals and fat. Take your politically correct nonsense from the equation and give it a shot.

  • @kravenmoorehead7927
    @kravenmoorehead7927 Місяць тому

    I have been type 1 for 35 years. I must inject 5-6 units of regular as soon as my feet hit the floor even if I my glucose is 60. I only eat once a day (strict carnivore) in the late afternoon/evening. Never felt better. Eating just makes me feel like hammered dog crap and requires too much insulin. The problem with taking a lot of insulin is the weight gain it causes. If your insulin levels are too high, it is physiologically impossible to lose weight. I have a type 1 diabetic doctor who is pleased with his ALC of 7, but mine is 6 or just under and I have no complications :D

    Unquenchable thirst doesn't even scratch the surface. You can't describe just how thirsty you are to someone that hasn't experienced this. Waking up to a 100% parched dry mouth. Peeing every 15 minutes with a bursting full bladder. Massive weight loss (I lost 40 lbs in my last week before hospitalization). Blurred vision. Been T1 since 1/18/1985, just after my 17th birthday.

    I can relate! I know I'm two years late but I recently went to the ER for the first time as well. It was kind of a false alarm but I wanted to play it safe as I had taken a ton of insulin and was crashing really hard. Do you keep glucagon around? I usually worry a lot less having something I can just inject myself with and pump up my blood sugar if I need to. I absolutely despise that feeling of forcing myself to eat while low so its nice to have a "ripcord" to pull just in case. Best wishes for your diabetes journey.

    My brother is in coma at this moment, both me and him have type 1 diabetic, he has 87 bloodsugar (should be) 6. I just called the emergancy and now its down to 32. But this is just a minor part in this. Now they have to clense hos blood, keep watching vitals regarding his brain, heart and kidneys. Its still very critical and unsure if he will make it. He was found laying on the ground and have been there for atleast 12h since he lives alone. I will visit him soon

    one day when I was in I think 3rd grade someone asked me "What is that on your arm?" and I just said t was a sticker and they kept asking questions and I don't know why I didn't embrace it like it makes me stronger if anything. The main reason why I lied about it when I was younger was because I didn't know who I could trust but know I try to embrace it as much as I can. I am way late to this party. So I'm not even going to try to offer an explanation as to what happened to your insulin dose and blood sugar. I have been T1 for almost 40 years and been on pumps about 25 years. My degree is an electrical engineering and I do statistics for a living. I tell people that having T1 is like having 20 variable but 15 equations. You may know everything about how blood sugar is impacted by your current health status, your current carb load, the location where you inject, how much exercise you're doing, all of that stuff. But no matter what there's always an unknown so you can never truly manage your blood sugar perfectly. It's not possible. Best case scenario it's a crapshoot.

    After 25+ years on a Medtronic pump, I started using a t:slim x2 a week ago… best decision ever! I have to say, though, I prefer Medtronic’s Quickset infusion sets and reservoirs; they’re much easier to load and insert. Since set/site change is every three days, I can deal with the Autosoft 90 versus Medtronic’s pump!😊

    Why do so many people get the cause and effect backwards for thirst/urination in relation to diabetes? Your body is trying to eliminate the sugar, so it's making you pee. You get dehydrated, and that makes you thirsty.

    I never thought of placing the anchor adhesive OVER the tubing letting it do its natural coil! that has been my biggest challenge for me is to have the 2nd part in a comfortable position without feeling the tube wanting to curl. Going to try this on my next infusion site. Thank you!
